WHAT’S GOING ON?

  • Thursday, 10 April 2008, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    The Basics of Camp Nursing
    This 7-hour seminar is an entry level seminar that explores the unique skills of camp nursing. Supported by take-home materials, participants complete a curriculum that includes medication management, screening, sanitation and communicable disease control, and working with physician protocols. Anticipated contact hours: 7.0 (see below). Facilitated by ACN president, VJ Gibbins, and other camp nurse leaders.
  • Friday, 11 April 2008
    MidStates Camping Conference
    Pre-registered ACN members have access to this conference running concurrent with ACN events. Enjoy educational sessions that include a Health & Wellness track and time in the Exhibit Hall.
  • Saturday & Sunday, 12-13 April 2008
    Camp Nurse Symposium opens with registration at 8:00 a.m. followed by a full day of professional sessions that includes, for pre-registered participants, the Camp Nurse Picnic Lunch and the Camp Nurse Dinner at 6:00 p.m. The Symposium continues at noon on Sunday. Contact hours pending (see below).
    ACN’s 12th Annual Camp Nurse Symposium is the featured education event of the year, bringing camp nurses from across the U.S. and Canada together to discuss issues relevant to camp practice, to hear presentations pertinent to camp health services, and to network with one another. The Symposium has become THE place to meet other camp nurses while getting the most current information.
  • Saturday Evening, 12 April 2008
    ACN’s Annual Meeting follows the Camp Nurse Dinner. Awards are presented to 5 and 10 year members and president VJ Gibbins leads a member discussion about Association accomplishments and future opportunities.

In short, yes! This makes it possible for meal counts and having adequate supplies for your learning experiences. Walk-in registrations are subject to space availability and may not have access to program materials; meals are not included for walk-ins.

  • ACN member access to ACA’s Mid-States Conference on Thursday evening & Friday.

WHAT ABOUT CONTACT HOURS?

Contact hours have been applied for through the Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval Program Committee, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Contact hours will be awarded at the end of each event and upon return of the self-evaluation form. For those who attend the Symposium (Saturday & Sunday), we anticipate about 8.0 contact hours will be available. For those who complete the Basics of Camp Nursing Seminar, we anticipate about 7.0 contact hours.

  • This year’s seminar (Thursday’s pre-Symposium event) focuses on basic camp nursing knowledge for the nurse who is newer to camp practice.
  • For early arrivals, meet at the hotel’s registration desk at 6:30 p.m. so we can have supper together on Thursday and Friday evenings.
