Lighting the Camp Nursing Path:
Focus on Legal and Ethical Challenges

About the Symposium
8:30 am, March 28 – 12 noon, 29 March 2009

  • Need an update about what constitutes “malpractice” and how to avoid it as a camp nurse? Wondering about ethical issues? The 2009 Symposium will focus on these topics as well as others. This Symposium will make a difference to your practice – be there! Reb Gregg, a licensed attorney from Houston, TX, joins the Symposium to keynote the event and do a break-out session. Known for both his writing and work in the Wilderness Risk Management Community, Reb brings his wisdom and wit to help tackle some of the challenges of camp nursing practice. Read more about him online at www.rebgregg.com.

About the Pre-Symposium Seminars
8:30 – 5:00 pm, 26 March 2009

  • First Aid Instructor Training for Camp Nurses
A growing number of camp nurses are taking advantage of ACN’s partnership with the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) and becoming first aid & CPR instructors. This seminar explains how to teach courses like this and the options for student evaluation. If you are an ACN member, an RN, and have the knowledge base to be a first aid instructor but have never done this before, this seminar is for you! Facilitated by Linda Erceg and ACN’s Leadership Team.
  • The Basics of Camp Nursing Seminar Designed for nurses who are new (or newer!) to the camp world, this seminar provides an overview of camp nursing practice. It includes topics such as Opening Day screening, clinical topics, medication management, working with camp administration and camp parents, and Health Center organization. Facilitated by VJ Gibbins & ACN’s Leadership Team.
