Jeanne
Otto Award
PURPOSE OF THE AWARD
At the time of its inception, the Jeanne Otto Award was designated
as a way to formally recognize a camp nurse for outstanding professional
contribution to the practice of camp nursing. It was meant to recognize
only exceptional effort; consequently, the Award is not, necessarily,
given each year. Any ACN member may nominate another member for
the Jeanne Otto Award. The nominating member submits a nominating
form for Board consideration. The Board decides if the nominee
merits the Award. If so, the recipient is informed and the award
is conferred at Association’s next national conference.
HISTORY
In 1993 the Association of Camp Nurses announced creation of
the Jeanne Otto Award. The Award, created in honor of ACN’s
founder, was established as a way for the Association to recognize
exceptional professional contribution to camp nursing. Jeanne’s
vision launched what is today the Association of Camp Nurses. The
first Award was given to her in recognition of her foresight and
to honor her as a camp nurse whose work continues to touch the
lives of campers, staff, and the many nurses who work at camps
around the world.
