AUTHOR OF CREATING A HEALTHY CAMP COMMUNITY: A NURSE’S ROLE

Dr. Lishner’s association with camp health care spans 30 years. During that time, she wrote a book about camp nursing and received ACN’s prestigious Jeanne Otto Award. Kris has been involved in private and non-profit camps serving a broad range of populations in the Eastern, Midwest, and Western United States. Kris has also been active with the American Camp Association since 1978, serving as an accreditation visitor for almost 15 years. Her involvement with camp health includes several years on ACN’s Board of Directors and Chair of several ACN national conferences.

Kris is especially interested in primary prevention and health promotion in camp settings and in camp as a development-promoting environment for children and young adults. Most of her current consultation and participation in camp health care is limited to work with the Inland Empire Council of Camp Fire in Spokane. She also works with undergraduate and graduate nursing students interested in research and/or role development in camp health care.

The camp nursing world celebrated publication of Kris’ book, Creating a Healthy Camp Community: A Nurse’s Role, in spring 1994. Available through ACA bookstore (bookstore@aca-camps.org), the book is used as a text in baccalaureate programs for camp nursing courses and as reference for many practicing camp nurses.
