ACN Who's Who in Camp Nursing

Myra Pravda, RN, MSNLynda Lankford, RN, BSN, PHN

BOARD MEMBER AT LARGE

Lynda began her ACN career upon the recommendation of the nurse she replaced at camp. She attended ACN's 1999 International Camp Health Conference, has been to the Symposiums, and participated in the Product Review Team. In addition to her school nursing work, Lynda has been returning to New York's Deerfoot Lodge since the summer of 1997. She began her camp nursing career at Camp Li-Lo-Li and also has experience working at a Christian wilderness camp for boys in New York State.

According to Lynda, "I continue to work at Deerfoot and have now moved into a role of health service management. I've revised the Health Center Manual, created new forms as state regulations change, contribute to staff training as an ARC CPR/AED instructor, and have taught the National Safety Council's WFA course." Lynda would like to use her background to help ACN nurses be more effective in their camp communities.

"My experience as a camp nurse began when I was recruited by a friend to help out in a camp health center. I was hooked after the first week! ... My contribution comes from two areas: a strong camp nursing background linked with a position as a district nurse in a progressive Minnesota school district. I would like to explore the use of software for charting in the camp health office and linking it to the database that is used in the main office. Other areas of interest are camp forms, emergency equipment, and staff responsibilities for medications on trips."
