CLINICAL COMMITTEE
Rosemary began camp nursing in 1994 as a volunteer camp nurse
for Maryland’s 4-H program because her daughter wanted to
go to camp. Little did she know that her offer “to help out” would
have such an impact on her life! Like many first time camp nurses,
Rosemary went from not having any idea of what she was supposed
to do to helping shape the Maryland state-wide 4-H camping program.
She accomplished this through the state’s Camp Task Force.
Rosemary’s history with ACN began with her membership but
also with a poster presentation – the first ever – at
ACN’s 1999 International Camp Health Conference. She repeated
the presentation at the National 4-H Camping Institute in 2002.
While doing this, Rosemary was also developing the state’s
4-H camp nurse training and she initiated the development of western
Maryland’s 4-H Center Health Manual.
Roe – as her camp friends know her – has background
as a trauma nurse (four years), an ICU nurse (7 years), home care
and hospice nurse (4 years), a geriatric care manager (4 years)
in which she is nationally certified, and is currently director
of a private duty nursing agency. With all of this, she’s
continued to have time for camp nursing every summer with her Maryland
4-H program and, recently, with a private residential camp.
Rosemary has been a member of ACN since 1998 and began her Board
term in 2004. According to her, “I want to share my passion
for camp nursing and promote the profession among other nurses.”
