Susan
Praeger, EdD, APRN
PROFESSIONALIZATION CHAIR
Susan’s interest in camp nursing began in the 1980s when
she started taking undergraduate nursing students to camp as a
clinical experience for pediatric and community health courses.
Currently she teaches a community service learning course each
summer at a camp for children with diabetes. Graduate and undergraduate
students attend as well as registered and advanced practice nurses.
Susan has attended camps for children with diabetes, seizure disorder,
traumatic brain injury, and myelodysplasias. When not at camp,
she is a professor of nursing at the Wright State University College
of Nursing and Health. She directs the graduate school nurse program
and maintains a clinical practice4 as the school nurse for a small
K-12 school district.
An ACN Board member since 1998, Susan led the Association through
the process of creating the Scope of Practice statement for camp
nursing as well as the development of the Standards of Camp Nursing
Practice. She continues to champion ACN’s professionalization
focus.
